With a career record of 147-42-12, Lady Spartans Head Coach Hector Gonzalez has built a dynasty in the East Sequoia League (ESL), with his latest victory coming against Division II Monache.
The Lady Spartans beat the Lady Marauders 2-1 on Thursday, improving their record to 2-0 on the year.
It was Monache that would draw first blood on the pitch, with freshmen Isabel Mendez scoring a goal thanks to a great assist from her teammate Tatiana Verduzco. The Lady Marauders’ defense was able to shut down Strathmore in the first half of the game, taking control of the middle pitch and playing smart on their back line.
However, the Lady Spartans came out flying in the second half and began to control possession and bring the game to Monache’s half of the field. Sophomore Samantha Oliveira scored the first goal for Strathmore, to even things up at 1-1 early on. Monache tried to answer with a few counter attacks, but it was clear that the momentum pendulum was swinging in Strathmore’s favor. Sophomore co-captain Ally Halloway provided the finishing touches, scoring on a long range strike that found the back of the net.
“We’re such a young team this year, and this is only our third week together as a team. The ability of this group and their willingness to play hard is (something special) that’s going to take us to the next level,” said Gonzalez.
