The Lady Spartans of Strathmore High were the only local team to notch a win, defeating Mt. Whitney 36-34. Strathmore had a 16-point lead late in the third quarter, but started to struggle offensively and at the foul line, allowing Mt. Whitney to close.
Kandyce Gurrola was the leading scorer for the Lady Spartans with 11 points. Mariah Hernandez posted nine points, six rebounds and three steals for the winners.
Strathmore lost its second game 55-25 to Hanford West. The Lady Spartans were outscored 19-2 in the third quarter and had 39 turnovers in the game. Gurrola was the leading scorer with six points, while Yadira Arrealano posted six points and five rebounds.
The Lady Spartans will play Golden West today in the fifth-place bracket at Mission Oak High School.
The Monache Lady Marauders fell to Ridgeview 74-50 and Liberty 57-44. Hailey Scott netted 19 points and Bailey Margosian added 12 for Monache against Ridgeview.
The Lady Patriots of Liberty exacted revenge, after losing early in the season to Monache. Margosian, who had 31 points in the first meeting, was a nonfactor Friday. Scott led the Lady Marauders with 12 points, while Sarah Leal added nine.
The Lady Grizzlies of Granite Hills lost their opening game against Redwood 51-30. Sarah Vehrs led Granite Hills with eight points and three steals. In their second outing of the tourney the Lady Grizzlies lost a competitive game against Tulare Union 41-36. Shauntell Edmond led Granite Hills with 14 points and two rebounds.
