Saleh, a freshman pitcher, tossed a two-hit, complete game shutout to beat Robert F. Kennedy High School 4-0 in the nightcap of a doubleheader Saturday. He struck out 10, and walked just one.
Spartan coach Thad Reece was ecstatic with Saleh’s performance.
“In all my years of coaching I have never seen anything like this,” Reece said. “Watching a freshman take the mound with no previous game experience and do this is absolutely remarkable.”
Saleh also got his first varsity hit, going 1-for-2 at the plate. Clay Landis led Strathmore offensively, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs scored. Michael Merzoian doubled.
In the opener, Strathmore scratched out a 9-7 win behind two hits apiece from Landon Fleeman and Francisco Felix. Landis doubled and scored three runs.
Spartan pitcher Andrew Avalos picked up the win, working 3 2/3 innings while striking out five and yielding one earned run.
