Students at Strathmore Elementary School who walk to and from school everyday will have a little safer route in which to walk next year.
On Tuesday, the Tulare County Board of Supervisors awarded a $294,535 contract to Don Berry Construction to install curb, gutter and sidewalk along the east side of Road 230 between Avenues 196 and 198.
The project is part of the Safe Routes to School program which enhances areas where students have to walk to school. Presently, there are no curbs, gutters or sidewalks along that stretch of Road 230.
Work is expected to begin later this month.
Also on Tuesday, the board approved going to remodel the Strathmore Library.
The estimated $260,000 project will include interior and exterior renovations to the library at 19646 Road 230.
The project calls for plumbing, mechanical and electrical work and to make the library ADA compliant.
Remodeling of the library is expected to be completed by the end of December.
